On June 27, in the beautiful garden of the Archdiocese of Belgrade, the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Serbia held its official National Day ceremony, marking the Feast of its Patron Saint, St. John the Baptist.<\/p>\n
The celebration began with a Holy Mass at the Co-Cathedral of Christ the King, officiated by Father Andrej Djuricek. Following the service, Ambassador Francesco Maria Amoruso, accompanied by the Embassy\u2019s diplomatic staff, welcomed a large number of guests, including accredited ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, priests from the Archdiocese of Belgrade and the Diocese of Srijem, delegates from the Serbian Orthodox Church, Secretaries of State and Members of Parliament, as well as donor partners, beneficiaries of various humanitarian initiatives, numerous journalists, and friends of the Embassy\u2014some of whom had traveled from Italy specifically for the occasion.<\/p>\n
After the playing of the national anthems and greetings to H.E. Mons. Santo Gangemi, Apostolic Nuncio to Serbia, and H.E. Mr. Nemanja Starovi\u0107, Minister for European Integration, Ambassador Amoruso also conveyed a warm message to His Eminence Cardinal Ladislav Nemet, who was on official duty in Rome with the Holy Father.<\/p>\n
In his address, Ambassador Amoruso reflected on the Order of Malta\u2019s thousand-year history and its extensive humanitarian work around the world, carried out in the spirit of its guiding motto: Tuitio Fidei, Obsequium Pauperum<\/em>\u2014\u201cDefence of the Faith and Service to the Poor.\u201d He also quoted from the message sent by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to the members of the Order on the occasion of the Feast of St. John.<\/p>\n The Ambassador went on to highlight the Embassy\u2019s commitment to assisting the most vulnerable members of society. He specifically mentioned the successful completion of a project for the Institute for Girls with Special Needs in Izvor. Emphasizing the excellent relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Order of Malta, he also announced the upcoming release of a commemorative postage stamp by the Serbian Post. The stamp celebrates the 140th anniversary of the Order\u2019s donation of a hospital train to the Kingdom of Serbia in 1885, used to transport the wounded during the conflict with the Principality of Bulgaria.
